How do I choose a vacuum furnace hot-zone material?
The hot zone is usually selected from process temperature, atmosphere, contamination limits, workpiece chemistry, and expected maintenance requirements.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| V2 | Project matched | No mechanical load | Vacuum / inert gas | Lab / pilot | General vacuum heat treatment |
| V4 | High temperature | No mechanical load | Vacuum / inert gas | Pilot / production | Graphite hot-zone furnace needs |
| V5 | High temperature | No mechanical load | Vacuum / inert gas | Pilot / production | Molybdenum hot-zone processes |
| V7 | Ultra-high temperature | No mechanical load | Vacuum / inert gas | Special process | Tungsten hot-zone requirements |
| V10 | Project matched | No mechanical load | Vacuum / protective gas | Production | Continuous processing |
Selection guide
Start by defining the material, target heat treatment or sintering result, hot-zone material, vacuum level, process gas, cooling method, usable work zone, and batch mass. Graphite, molybdenum, tungsten, induction, and continuous layouts serve different temperature, contamination, and production requirements.
Vacuum sintering is selected when parts do not need mechanical pressure during heating. Hot pressing is selected when applied load is part of the densification route and tooling contact is acceptable.

The hot zone is usually selected from process temperature, atmosphere, contamination limits, workpiece chemistry, and expected maintenance requirements.
A vacuum furnace is better when the process needs clean heat treatment, sintering, brazing, annealing, or degassing without applying mechanical load.
Provide material, target temperature, vacuum level, atmosphere, work zone size, batch capacity, heating/cooling cycle, and production schedule.
